Himig ng Harana
This February, the Filipinas Heritage Library (FHL) is launching a series of musical performances in celebration of Filipino artistry especially in the field of music. On February 10, Thursday, the Library will be hosting a pre-Valentine musical performance, entitled HIMIG ng HARANA, featuring well-loved Filipino love songs to be performed by the group Harana ng Kasarinlan.
Harana ng Kasarinlan is an all-male group composed of members from diverse backgrounds but all with a common passion for music and strongly believing in reviving the art and tradition of wooing Filipino women. Alex Bite, bass singer and guitarist, used to be a librarian and is now a wood craftsman. Dondi Ong, tenor, is a well-established performer in various concerts and plays. Trygve Bolante, tenor 2 and octavina player, is a consultant at a reputable government institution. Jonaf del Fierro, bass singer and arranger, has been performing solo in many shows and musicals.
HIMIG ng HARANA is only the first of a musical series. In the coming weeks, the FHL will be hosting the debut performances of three award-winning Filipino young artists (pianists Yin Chu Zou and Lorenzo Medel, and tenor Nomher Nival). FHL hopes that through artistic endeavors such as this, the library will continue to share the uniqueness of the country’s heritage and recognize and develop a deep appreciation for Filipino artists.
The Filipinas Heritage Library is a cultural institution that aims to preserve and actively promote our local heritage and traditions through various events and activities. It also undertakes programs that seek to improve the country’s literacy level and promote a general love of reading among Filipinos. Donations made during these performances will benefit the libraries and schools that FHL is supporting through its literacy programs.
